1)      VISCOM Italy 2005 a successful show

Visual Communication Italia 2005 confirms once again its leading position as one of Europe’s biggest exhibition with results that exceed any expectation. 19,220 visitors for Visual Communications, which represent an increase of 16.2 percent over last year. Foreign attendance increased by 21 percent over last year. Visitors from 75 countries were present at the fair. 1,237 attendees at the extensive educational program that Visual Communication offered this year covering all segments of the industry: large format digital printing, neon, engraving, screen printing, POP and the event industry. The increase of 55 percent of seminar attendance shows clearly the need that today’s graphic producer has to be updated not only on new technologies but also on new marketing strategies. 522 Italian and foreign exhibitors (293 direct and 229 represented companies) accounted for an increase of exhibition space by 20,5 percent. 94 new exhibitors joined VISCOM this year and together with well-established former exhibitors offered their visitors an exhibition full of new products and services. Exhibitors from Germany, Switzerland, France, Spain, Portugal, The Netherlands, Belgium, UK, Sweden, Norway, Greece, Turkey, Bulgaria, Romania, Czech Republic, Hungary, U.S.A, and Taiwan made Visual Communication a truly international event offering many innovations. Decisive 2005 was the introduction of the “solution area” in hall 15, where today’s solution makers, digital printers, POP/POS producers and event service providers together offered to advertising agencies, media companies and owner, marketing managers and event managers, the unique chance to see custom made solutions, innovative technology and creative solutions together under the same roof.

2)      Gandinnovations achieves true 600 dpi

The Texas-based Gandinnovations has recently completed its higher resolution research and development on the Jeti 3 m, 5 m and UV flatbed model printers. This latest technology from Gandinnovations offers a true 400 dpi or 600 dpi output for each model. Hary Gandy, CEO of world-wide sales said that now the output from the Jeti will produce even sharper images and will complete with the traditional higher resolution inkjet printers. Gandy added that the Jeti series of printer’s output have faster speeds and lower ink cost than the traditional high-resolution machines. Gandinnovations is currently using 80 Pico liter Spectra print heads offering true 300 dpi quality. Now, with no addition cost to the customer, the manufacturer offers on any new Jeti printer the option of getting a 50 (true 400 dpi) or 30 (600 dpi) Pico liter head. Thus, the apparent result from the 6 color Jeti printers will be 800 or 1200 dpi respectively. Gandinnovations is excited about the quality they can achieve. Right now, the company can offer their customers who buy a new Jeti printer the true 400 or 600 dpi option immediately, without any price increase. Once again, they have listened to their clients’ needs and have responded.

3)      Milford installed VUTEk PressVu UV 200/600

Pennsylvania-based point-of-purchase specialist, Milford Enterprises Inc., is using its newly installed VUTEk PressVu UV 200/600 to increase productivity and service to customers. The direct to substrate printing capability of the new printer now enables Milford to produce large format digital printing in-house, lowering costs and providing customers with premium quality graphics, on time. Milford’s VUTEk PressVu UV 200/600 was installed in April 2005. Almost immediately, the printer was put to work producing graphics for the launch of a new “Champion Toilet” from American Standard. Sold through a nationwide dealer network of 50 hardware stores, the American Standard Toilets featured images printed directly onto 3mm Sintra panels, made up as display boxes to promote the new “Champion Flushing System”. With graphic panels measuring 40 x 50 cm, the American Standard product displays were used to demonstrate the new flushing system, but with an internal water pump to enable the toilet to be displayed on the shop floor without the need for external water or plumbing. As such, the printed panels were made up into boxes to hide the demonstration pipe-work. On each panel’s surface, the PressVu UV printed explanatory text and colorful diagrams to market the system.

5)      ColorGATE’s DeviceLink Optimizer available

ColorGATE’s new DeviceLink Optimizer for all Proofing and Profiler solutions is available immediately. Under real conditions, proofs, generated directly from the software, are so close to the final print output, that a delta E value of under 1 (one) ColorGATE Digital Output Solutions GmbH can achieve. Users, working with ProofGATE 4 Profiler or other ColorGATE solutions with proofing or profiling functionality can generate very precise DeviceLink profiles for the exact replication of print conditions by using the printer output profiles. The DeviceLink Optimizer to a specific print condition iteratively matches the paper profiles, whereby the delta E values are optimized in the proof. By using the color management system “CrossXcolor”, the DeviceLink Optimizer does not convert colors via the LAB color space. An easy to use assistant within the ColorGATE software interacts with the user, so that the respective DeviceLink profiles users can generate it quickly and easily not familiar with color management. As a result, all users have the ability to match their proof prints as closely as possible on the proofing device. Especially now, ColorGATE users are benefiting from a free update to the new version 4.10 in order to use the new DeviceLink Optimizer. The update can be obtained by download from the supplier website.

16)  FESPA World Expo India 05

India’s first ever-live screen and digital printing exhibition is well received. Almost 10,000 visitors flocked to New Delhi from 1 to 4 December 2005 to view a range of screen and digital printing technology in action at FESPA World Expo India 05, showcased by over 100 suppliers from around the globe. The show was a resounding success for both exhibitors and visitors, with many exhibitors making a number of sales at the show. Frazer Chesterman, FESPA’s exhibitions director, comments, that the halls at Pragati Maidan positively buzzed with activity during the four days of the exhibition. This show has introduced international suppliers to a completely new customer base, which they have perhaps not fully explored before. Chesterman: “We specifically targeted FESPA India to a select group of people operating in the screen and digital industries in the Indian subcontinent – all the feedback we have received so far indicates that this has been successful for both exhibitors and visitors seeking out the latest, leading edge technology.” Most of exhibitors called FESPA India as a perfect environment for them to develop a completely new customer base of screen printers, and they will definitely take part in FESPA events in this region in the future.
