was slow and also the information flow was slow. Nevertheless here are the news
we collected for you.
Last days in 2002 we got the message that EFI

hoping that also in 2003 our service will provide added value to you. So,
whenever you have any comment or news, do not hesitate to mail.
Have a great year!!

Ghilad Dziesietnik, EFI Vice President Advanced Software and Thorsten
Breiding, President Best explained reasons for the acquisition and the
benefits. For EFI Ghilad said that EFI is committed and focussed on expanding
its presence in the professional and graphic arts industry. EFI sees Best as an
important part of their growth strategy due to the fact that the inkjet
proofing market is growing and Best is the dominant player in this segment with
complementary distribution channels and partners. The goal is to offer
solutions for the complete workflow, therefore the acquisition of Best was a
logical consequence. Furthermore an excellent match of culture between EFI and
Best is seen. Thorsten stated: With EFI Best gains financial and technical
resources which offer stability to our customers and partners and allow us to
increase our presence in the proofing market while establishing our solutions
in the printing and workflow markets as well. Both said that the acquisition
has no effect on Best employees and no change of location is planned. Even the
product range will stay as it is. Both companies fell comfortable with the
product range and consider them important for the future. There will be also no
changes regarding partnership and OEM agreements.

“At the end of the day, I load up the machine, hit the print button,
turn the lights out and go home,” said the owner of a Summa Durachrome thermal
transfer system. Leaving machines running unattended overnight, usually in the
dark, is often called “lights-out manufacturing.” The good news is that thermal
transfer printing technology is so reliable that users really can walk away
from the machines for hours at a time. The bad news is that if you have to run
a machine overnight to meet demand, you’re at the limit of what that machine
can do for your business. And, if there’s a problem overnight, you may never
make up the lost time. At 582 square feet per hour, the Matan
SprinterB produces more while you’re at lunch than other systems can do in
days. At 582 square feet per hour, the SprinterB is like having a supercharger
for your business. This is a short part of the new Matan Messenger which can be
downloaded.

In early 2001,
amidst heightened DFP awareness and beta activity, I.T. Strategies (ITS)
assessed what kind of impact the emerging class of digital flatbed printers
would have in the digital print marketplace in its Market Pulse analysis.
Digital Flatbed Printers (DFPs) offer much market promise and offer some key
distinctions such as their configuration flexibility (roll to roll AND flatbed
feed capability) and diverse substrate capabilities including the ability to
print directly to rigid substrates. The latter, with the potential to reduce or
eliminate the labor and time costs of mounting and traditional cut vinyl
signage approaches, may truly prompt a paradigm shift in the digital print
world. The full story can be found at ITS web page.

Xaar and SunJet have
announced the further roll-out of the flexible UV ink, the Crystal UFX series, for
use in Xaar’s versatile XJ126 printhead family. Launched at Ipex 2002 and
previously available only to packaging and industrial printers using Xaar’s
XJ500 printhead, the Crystal UFX ink series has now been approved for use with
Xaar’s XJ126 printheads. This move allows the inks to be expanded into other
printing markets - chiefly the graphics printing sector – as the XJ126
printhead is particularly well suited to scanning applications, being light in
weight with a fast print speed, giving print coverage of up to 38 sm per hour.
The flexible nature of the UV cure ink, achieved through its unique ink
formulation including high performance pigments, means that once cured, the
print can be rolled or folded without fear of ink peel or cracking - a solution
that will be welcomed by printshops and other graphic arts providers alike. The
ink’s excellent adhesion properties make it ideally suited for printing onto a
range of substrates such as PVC and other outdoor display materials. Its
ultra-fast curing on exposure to UV light makes it the perfect ink type to be
used on reel to reel machines, the standard tool of graphic arts print
providers. The Crystal UFX ink range is available in CMYK and additional
colours of light cyan, light magenta, orange and green are currently in
development.

The SPINJET system
has quickly become the market leader for fully automatic, double-sided
proofing. Designed for the needs of the pre-press market – and hot on the heels
of the enormous success of the SPINJET 1000, which boasts over 750
installations worldwide – the SPINJET 5000 offers accurate, high quality color
imposition proofing in a single, fully automatic, double-sided imposition
proofing solution. SPINJET 5000 users can save manpower through automation;
save time through high-speed printing; minimize error costs through early error
detection; and present their customers with a folded and binded print sample of
the customer’s job. The TDS VersoProof is a manual turning solution using
dual-coated sheet paper. The sheet is very easily fed into the printer for
first side printing, and then simply reloaded for accurate second side
printing. The very high accuracy of print registration is achieved through the
TDS VersoProof application, in conjunction with the quality of the Epson
printer. Improvements to the TDS VersoProof allow for input formats including
continuous tone TIFF with color profiling.
