2003-02-21
again we collected a lot of information for you.
With this release the LFP-Newsletter is going into the third year. Yes, at
CeBIT 2001 we started. It seems that it would be yesterday. But it was you who
drove us and we all hope you will do also in the future.
Today I have one very special question for you:
These days we sat together with some friends and discussed the advantages and
gaps of the different ink types. Mainly for the outdoor business we have had
some different opinions whether real solvent, UV inks or the lactate inks would
be better for productivity, stability, operator and last but not least for the
environment. Who ever has any experience with these inks (good as well as bad)
please mail to Wolfgang.Hey@LFP-Newsletter.com
, so we can stabilize our discussions and help other users.
Many thanks! We hope you will find the info we
collected valuable. Please don’t hesitate to send us your comment.
Sincerely
Wolfgang Hey and the entire LFP-Newsletter.com

The world’s biggest stationary trade fair for Office, Paper, School, Art
& Graphic – named PAPERWORLD –
closed its doors after a record run. 65,000 national and international
trade visitors came to Frankfurt/Main. “Imaging” – the new segment positioned
at PAPERWORLD – became a shooting star. Numerous set offers with hardware and
software are to be found in great number. With the presence of original
equipment manufacturers for IT and printer supplies, which were exhibited for
the first time in Frankfurt in the new “Imaging” segment, PAPERWORLD was able
to further extend its position as the world’s leading fair for the stationary
sector. It seems, that “Digital Imaging” is the great hope for increasing sales
in the office-supplies segment.

Sihls’ stand was at the centre of the lively scene in hall 5.0. Its 110
sqm area was a 20 sqm increased in their presence at the last photokina, a
clear signal of the preparedness to offer a "warm welcome". The main
focus was of course the Digital Imaging Applications, for which Sihl was presenting
their top 25 products from the 2003 range. An HP 5500 was printing onto three
highlights from that range: Elite, Classic Vinyl and Roll-a-Sorb representing
the latest product launches. The new, permanent self-adhesive CLASSIC Vinyl WF
SA 280 matt 3988 vinyl foil with microporous inkjet coating is universal in use
and provides a whole series of properties that previously required selecting
among several types of vinyl. Now, at last, there is one for all and all for
one. This vinyl foil exhibits the typical Sihl attributes of innovation,
creativity and effectiveness. Another highlight product was Roll- a- Sorb;
Roll-a-Sorb170 matt 3991 is a white inkjet coated PET film. Single pass direct
print pop-up backing film for popup and roll-up applications as well as for
rotating advertising boards. The back side is 100 percent opaque which blocks
any show through. It carries a bright white coating. Its inherent stiffness
strongly supports its stand-alone stability. Furthermore Roll-a-Sorb 170 matt
is resistant to mechanical stress and dimensionally stable. And, the best
message is the outstanding productivity during and after printing thanks to the
instant drying and print-to-lamination time! So, all in all Sihl said with
proud that they achieved their set goals for the Paperworld 2003 with success.

What the signmaker of today really needs is an
inkjet vinyl which allows cutting after lamination with no extra edge
protection. Until now it was not possible in a professional way: due to a
capillary action water could intrude between print and overlaminate – the print
became unusable. REGULUS showed at PAPERWORLD an exclusive novelty: SIVM
Outdoor Vinyl – a microporous PVC which sets new standards in terms of color
reproduction, whiteness and water-resistance. The adhesive film works with all
kinds of dye based and pigmented inks – even oil based inks provide quick
drying times. The film is called “SIVM” and is available in all common widths
up to 60 inch.
More information: www.regulus.de
Folex introduced several new media and
developments for outdoor applications at PAPERWORLD. The new Folajet Vinyl
Outdoor SA/P is a self adhesive white opaque film with a special new coating
which allows very short drying times. After the ink is dried up, the film can
be directly mounted. It’s flexible also for uneven undergrounds. It can be used
even without additional lamination. It’s weather resistant and can be used in
car washing machines without any problems. Folajet Vinyl Outdoor can be used
with piezo- and thermal printers with either dye or pigmented inks.

Canon Europe demonstrates the latest
large-format ink jet colour graphics printer, the 44” wide W8200 at CeBIT 2003.
The device has been designed to deliver industry-leading productivity and high
image resolution through revolutionary new wide print head technology. Aimed at
the graphic art and photographic market, but also adaptable to the office
environment, the new Canon W8200 printer accommodates print media of up to 44”
(1,117.6mm) and incorporates Canon’s revolutionary one-inch-wide, high-density
print head. The W8200 is available in both dye-based and pigment-based ink
versions. Based on Canon's proprietary Bubble Jet technology, the new print
head incorporates 7,680 tiny ink nozzles, 1,280 for each of the six colours,
delivering industry-leading print speeds of 2 minutes per page (A0 size/fast
mode). Bi-directional printing further increases the speed, which means that
whenever the print head moves from side to side it continually prints, rather
than lifting and starting again. The devices have high-capacity ink cartridges
for each colour. These are continuously monitored and measure remaining ink
levels. Users can therefore manage ink usage and eliminate costly interruptions
to large print jobs for greater efficiency and higher productivity. Come
and visit Canon at CeBIT in hall 1, booth 5 B 2.

Printed fabrics such as flags, banners,
clothing, bed linen and curtains now glow in colours that are more brilliant
and sharply outlined than ever before. The product responsible for the high
colour strength of inkjet textile prints is the pretreatment agent LupreJet HD.
The new product from BASF Ludwigshafen prepares textiles optimally for
printing. The LupreJet HD concentrate ensures that the ink droplets penetrate
the fabric evenly during the printing step. This special preparation eliminates
a shortcoming of the inkjet technique: bleeding of the colours. Precise dot
definition results in clear outlines that remain definite even when strong
colours are used. In addition, this innovative product allows dot-to-dot
distance to be minimized. The printed design impresses by its previously
unattainable sharpness and brilliance. The pretreatment agent LupreJet HD is
characterized by high print penetration, especially on flag fabrics. The new
product is particularly suitable for disperse dye inks on polyester materials.
Very good results are also obtained with pigment inks on cotton and blends. The
advantages of the concentrate are especially obvious in prints with disperse
systems such as Bafixan® and Helizarin® inks. BASF has
designed the pretreatment agent so that the user does not have to specially
configure the printer software or the inkjet printer. LupreJet HD is available
worldwide since January 2003.

Just twelve weeks after sales started for VisCom 2003, 65 percent of the
hall space has already been sold. A total of 108 international exhibitors have
firmly booked their exhibition space for the three-day event in September 2003,
including the digital printing market leaders NUR, Scitex and Vutek. A new
exhibitor in the field of screen-printing is Durst. And in the new imaging
products and systems segment, the event has succeeded in attracting the major
international company Agfa. As a means of further intensifying the
international nature of the exhibition and increasing the numbers of exhibitors
from the USA and Asia, VisCom is collaborating for the second time with the ISA
(International Sign Association). From 2 - 5 April, 2003, VisCom will have its
own stand at the ISA Show in Las Vegas. There, all the exhibitors and visitors
will have the opportunity to find out all about the signmaking events in Europe
this year and next from the French, Spanish, Italian and German representatives
on the "European Signshows" stand (no. 2781). Also, there have been
close links to the KOSIGN event in South Korea since December 2002. The
excellent rebooking figure for VisCom 2003 is the result of efforts at the last
events - PRO SIGN 2002 and VisCom 2001. Attracting 198 exhibitors from 23
countries and 7,007 trade visitors, the team of the new Project Manager Diana
Schmeisser proved at PRO SIGN 2002 without a trace of doubt that they are
giving the market what it wants. The VisCom 2003 supporting programme will
include the Training Pavilion, which was successfully launched in 2001, and the
LFP-Congress. Both events went down very well with the trade visitors. The 7th
VisCom will also be held in Hall 6 of the Düsseldorf Exhibition Centre.
