1) Debut at CeBIT: Novajet 1000i

ENCAD, a wholly owned subsidiary of Eastman Kodak, has announced that its recently launched ENCAD NOVAJET 1000i printer will make its debut in Germany at the forthcoming CeBIT exhibition. The new printer uses a number of innovations to improve speed, image quality, reliability, ease of use, and provide an extremely low cost per print. The NOVAJET 1000i is the first printer jointly developed by ENCAD and Kodak. The result is a breakthrough printer. The NOVAJET 1000i prints at speeds of up to 150 square feet per hour in photo quality, and it is the fastest printer in its class. ENCAD has introduced an all-new, 640-nozzle print head to deliver the high speed with exceptional image quality. The printer uses a dual component Rapid Evaporation Drying System to enable take-up at full speed with a wide assortment of Kodak media. The NOVAJET 1000i features image quality with a resolution of up to 1200 dpi. It has a new dynamic print masking technique – the Intelligent Mask Technology (IMT) – that incorporates a proprietary ink tiling method. ENCAD has also introduced Quantum Ink (Qi) with the new printer. Developed and manufactured by Kodak, these two new ink types offer market-leading features to provide superb image quality. Qi Dye Ink boasts outstanding color gamut and superior durability. Qi Pigment ink is a universal ink with the ability to print on both indoor and outdoor media with a color gamut that is unmatched by any other pigment ink. Breakthrough ink system technology and advanced print head design ensure the NOVAJET 1000i printer leads the way in reliability and ease of use.

2) Océ offers the Arizona 60UV

This is the industry’s first entry-level UV hybrid inkjet printer for sign making applications – the Océ Arizona 60UV hybrid inkjet sign printer. Océ has demonstrated it in its booth at the Graphics of the Americas Conference in Florida/USA in January. The Arizona 60UV is an entry-level printer that uses ultraviolet curable inks to produce large format display graphics on rigid and flexible substrates. The Océ Arizona 60UV is the first inkjet printer to combine both flatbed and roll-to-roll printing capabilities with UV ink technology at an entry-level price. The 60UV uses piezo printing technology and UV-curable inks to produce outdoor-durable graphics. Using the collapsible, rigid-media tables included with the system, an operator can print directly onto rigid substrates up to 60 inches wide, 96 inches long and 3/8 inches thick. Printing directly onto a variety of uncoated rigid substrates such as foam-core style mounting board, PVC sheets, styrene, aluminum-plastic composites, and more is easy and profitable with the Arizona 60UV. Roll-based media, such as banner and PSA vinyl, in widths up to 64 inches can also be used.

7) W6200P – no more compromises

Canon Europe has launched its 24” six-color pigment ink large format printer, the W6200P, to the graphic arts markets, citing a particular relevance to the photographic print market. The printer combines both print speed and high image quality at an affordable price, and it marks the end of compromise in either one asset. The printer now caters for both markets and offers both quality and output without either area losing out. This has been achieved through the W6200P’s ability to undertake bi-directional printing, as well as its one-inch print head, which enables high impact, photographic prints at speed. The W6200P has a range of other benefits including, such as full-bleed printing support for documents that require complete coverage or poster production, which allows the picture to cover the whole printing area with no white margins. The device’s six-color printing process enables improved color precision, greater depth, and finer tone diffusion. The process also ensures photo-quality high-resolution printouts, which are achieved through microscopic droplets of ink that are consistent in shape, size and density.

13) GCC: Masking pattern feature

Masking Pattern, an innovative feature created for GCC SignArt Nautilus thermal transfer printer users, is designed to imitate the output of one-way vision vinyl. With the Masking Pattern feature enabled, printing on transparent vinyl will display stunning graphics on one side, whilst maintain a clear and unobstructed visibility from the other side, by the creating virtual holes. Compared to the traditional one-way vision film, the virtual holes on the transparent vinyl will not trap dust or air-particles. Transparent vinyl costs less than the one-way vision vinyl and will produce a more durable and better quality image. The SignArt Nautilus RIP software, bundled with SignArt Nautilus thermal transfer printer, helps you output vector and raster images efficiently. With the compatibility of Windows 98/2000/Me/XP, Nautilus RIP supports six major file formats. Furthermore, the main options of the Nautilus RIP include spot color, print & cut, dithering patterns, job copy, and more.

15) New Perspectives on Fine Art Printing

Not everyone who is interested in art can afford to buy "originals", and prints are seldom a convincing alternative. Because of this, most artist can only reach a limited public with their "originals". Now, there is a solution to both problems: With liveprint, artists can market high-quality inkjet-prints of their works, while customers can buy first-rate reproductions at an attractive price. Impressionist Edouard Manet wanted to own a machine "that could reproduce in such a way that the fabrication could not be told from the original". The Neusser company din.a.x turns this dream into reality: Customers can choose their favoured picture – including format and print medium – directly in the gallery, museum shop or poster shop. A printer of the EPSON Stylus PRO line prints the work of art on the spot – as a high-grade reproduction in brilliant colours, in a quality that noticeably surpasses that of conventional art prints. Artists, galleries and art lovers interested in the concept c acquainted themselves with liveprint at EPSON's stand at the Ambiente Frankfurt, Germany.

19) Agfa and Thieme work together

This month, Agfa and Thieme announced that they are working together to develop a flatbed digital press for screen-printing applications. The new system will offer quality and speed advantages unavailable on the market today. The flatbed printer is to use next-generation inkjet technology. Two companies have agreed to combine their strengths, expertise, and proprietary technology to develop and market this new system jointly. They plan to show first this new technology at Fespa 2005 in Munich. Agfa reached an agreement with Barco in January to acquire dotrix NV, a Belgian based company which develops, manufactures, and sells digital color printing solutions for industrial applications. Both this acquisition and the co-operation with Thieme are demonstrations of Agfa’s commitment to the printing industry, especially with high-end inkjet systems. Thieme is known as an experienced, highly qualified business partner for the design and construction of complete system solutions for industrial production processes. The company is known for its professionalism and quality in the production of screen-printing machines.
