More information: www.graphintel.com/cwl 14) Uniform: Two new Inks – ActiveSOL and CitroSOL
With increased environmental concerns when using solvent-based
printers, Uniform’s advanced ink chemistry has been formulated to the
strictest safety parameters, yet provides superior results across virtually
all coated and uncoated materials. With two options available, ActivaSOL and CitroSOL, these
inks are both designed to give reliable, durable production, faster drying
times and vibrant, color-accurate output. The first ink, Uniform ActivaSOL, is a true solvent product yet has been
laboratory tested to ensure that it is totally free of the potentially
harmful ketones, cyclohexanone
and isophorone. This ink’s chemistry is formulated
to key with the substrate and, particularly with non-porous PVC medias, the
solvents work by dissolving the material’s surface to provide durable
results. Secondly, CitroSOL is Uniform’s ultra low-odor
organic solvent ink. Despite operating within the same safety levels as
eco-solvent products, CitroSOL incorporates all the
advantages of working with full solvents. However, it can be used in
wide-format printers without the need for special ventilation, and this makes
it ideal for users in smaller premises who want to benefit from solvent-based
production. Both of these inks can be used in any printer which is designed,
or modified, to accept active solvent products. Uniform’s ActivaSOL
and CitroSOL provide durable, brilliant results
with an outdoor life of at least two years. The formulation of Uniform’s inks
also takes into account the user’s printer and its print-heads. More information:

high-throughput UV liquid coater
SEAL Graphics, a world leader in image and print finishing solutions,
is spearheading a new generation of liquid laminators with the launch of its AquaSEAL 72UV. It is seen as an ideal companion to
current generation flatbed printers and for signmakers
involved in the production of outdoor displays and vehicle graphics. This new
machine is of a flatbed construction and will coat prints and rigid
substrates up to 1.76m wide and 12.7mm in thickness at speeds of up to 27 meters
per minute. Roll-to-roll finishing is also available as an optional extra.
The AS72UV uses a liquid formulation that is instantly cured when it passes
under the inbuilt ultra violet lamp. As such, it offers immediate protection
to a wide variety of materials including output from inkjet, electrostatic,
photographic and dye-sublimation printers, which can then be subjected to
further processing if required without further delay. If a second coat is
desirable, perhaps for banners or posters in a harsh environment, this can be
applied immediately. The liquid has been specifically formulated to meet the
extreme demands on outdoor displays and vehicle graphics and is impervious to
water, petrol, grease, alcohol, salt spray and detergents. It exhibits low shrinkage, low edge curl
and is non-yellowing. It is also UV,
scratch, scrub and abrasion-resistant and comes in gloss, lustre
and matt finishes. The gloss laminate, in particular, shows good
anti-graffiti properties. The AS72UV will be of particular benefit on
inkjet-produced images because the liquid laminate will not react with the
inks, so that offsetting is eliminated. Signmakers
printing onto foamex will find that a first coat of
liquid laminate will provide a smooth surface onto which inks will adhere
better than the original material. More information:
www.sealgraphics.com 19) GBC: New thermal laminating
systems and films

existing thermal trade finishers, but with the help of tailored business
cases GBC can show trade laminators still working with the wet technology how
they can increase their profits by converting to the thermal technology. The
GBC 8556 offers lamination up to 1.12m wide and 1.42m long which also makes
this system perfect for luxury package printing. The 8556 runs at up to a
maximum web-speed of 76m per minute and is designed to process a wide range
of film including the GBC Speciality films such as
the innovative and newly released 7100 Metalized
PET, a thermal silver metalized printable polyester
film. Furthermore it can process the 8600 Silk OPP film, specifically
developed for high speed and wide-format markets. This film provides a silk
finish and non-reflective surface. The unique finish is resistant to
finger-prints and gives a quality feel to the product. The GBC 8600 Silk
offers all the advantages of standard OPP film such as excellent adhesion
ensuring consistent quality output. This film is also suitable for further
finishing like spot varnish, UV varnish, embossing and foil stamping. Another
new development will be the 8300 Scuff-free film,
this matte film is three times more durable and scratch-resistant than the
GBC 8326 matte film. This film accepts UV-spot coating and creates greater
visual impact and accepts both animal- and synthetic based glues, making it
ideal for the packaging-industry. IPEX 2006: Hall 3, booth C50 More information: www.gbcfilm.com 20) GMG shows latest range of high-end
