5)     NUR Macroprinters: NUR Tempo II flatbed inkjet press

NUR Macroprinters announced the launch of its new NUR TempoT II flatbed UV-inkjet press, designed to deliver higher quality at higher speeds than the previous model. NUR Tempo II is based on the renowned original NUR Tempo platform, but is capable of printing at higher quality and higher print speeds.  This improvement is a result of a new design and related adjustments to the machine's operating software, including new print modes. The new model continues to offer customers the same versatile large printing format and robust material handling system as the original NUR Tempo. The higher performance NUR Tempo II retains the ability to print in both 4- and 8-colors (with fast changeover between the two) and also features both roll-to-roll and white ink-printing. NUR Tempo II will provide three new speed modes, including: Fine Press II mode, capable of output at 450 square feet per hour (42 sqm/hr) in 8-colors, Press II mode for output at 667 square feet per hour (62 sqm/hr) in 4-colors, and X-Press mode for output at 1300 square feet per hour (120 sqm/hr) in 4-colors. A field-installable upgrade kit is available so that current NUR Tempo customers can upgrade their current equipment to the new, higher speed performance levels of NUR Tempo II. NUR Macroprinters plans to begin shipping NUR Tempo II in mid-May 2006. NUR Tempo II will replace the current NUR Tempo model. FESPA Digital: hall 8, booth B 500

6)     Gröner on two stands at FESPA Digital

On the FESPA Digital in Amsterdam Gröner will have two chances to surprise the visitors. The first one is the new wide-format UV-Printer StellarJet displayed at the booth E650 of GCC in hall 8, which prints not only in an amazing quality on nearly any substrate if rigid or flexible, but also uses white as a printing ink to produce an underbase on dark or transparent media or as a spot color on any layouts. From Gröner the well-known LFP-specialist Dieter Lange will attend the show and present the surprising features of this brand new machine to prospectors. The just agreed cooperation between Gröner and Sawgrass Inc., booth B 400 in hall 8, the patent holder of the sublimation transfer process, offers the second chance to Gröner of showing presence on the FESPA Digital. Under use of a Roland Versacamm SP 300 they will show a variety of applications, printed with the Rotech Sublimation Ink on different substrates, developed especially for the promotion-textile market. The outstanding quality of sublimation prints associated with the print&cut option of the Roland Printer opens up new vistas for the textile-finisher and user of the sublimation-technique.

21) VUTEk: Environmentally friendly Solvent Ink

VUTEk®, a division of EFI, has launched BioVu™ – the next-generation of environmentally friendly solvent inks made with totally renewable resources. End users are increasingly demanding environmentally friendly inks, and governments are passing legislation requiring their use. Customers also have made it clear; they want the ability to print superwide graphics directly onto uncoated superwide substrates without bothersome fumes or expensive ventilation systems. The new, environmentally friendly BioVu ink addresses these demands. BioVu is the first solvent-based ink made from a renewable resource (namely, corn), and the only one recognized by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA). Created by VUTEk, BioVu is made from food-grade ingredients, yet delivers all the benefits of traditional solvent inks without the compromises inherent in eco-solvent and aqueous inks. BioVu provides extreme durability, strong bonding to uncoated surfaces, and great resistance to UV light and mechanical wear. BioVu inks are designed specifically to run in high-production environments and provide high print quality. The patent-pending, environmentally preferable chemistry inks include VUTEk’s BioVu in Cyan, Magenta, Yellow, Black and BioVu Light Cyan, Light Magenta, Light Yellow and Light Black for superwide format inkjet printing operations. BioVu inks are for use on VUTEk’s UltraVu® II 3360 solvent printer. VUTEk’s plan is to expand BioVu inks to its other solvent models later in the year. BioVu inks are currently entering beta tests in various sites in the United States and Europe. Once beta testing is complete, BioVu ink will be available worldwide starting mid 2006.

26) TEPEDE: New Media at FESPA Digital

TEPEDE has started the development of a wide portfolio on media quite a while ago. It’s not so easy to find the right solutions, but TEPEDE succeed and now they are able to offer one of the broadest media product range for solvent printers up to 5 m width. Especially for FESPA Digital TEPEDE are expanding their portfolio by some new and innovative media. SOLSTAR MATT 180g/qm is the heavier version of SOLSTAR MATT 140 and is well suited for e.g. CityLight application. It’s easy to laminate and available in 36” and 54“ at a length of 50 m. SOLSTAR SATIN 200g/qm is suited for photo reproduction for short and mid term use indoor. It’s following the request of having the well accepted 135 g version a bit stiffer. SOLSTAR LUSTER 230g/qm does incorporate all the good attributes known from SOLSTAR GLOSS including the UV stability caused by PE-coating, but it is luster. This new media follow the requirements of a big user group. POLYPROP SATIN is a perfect suited polypropylene film for roll-up-displays but is due to its stability also suited for POS-posters. After printing the film can be used without additional finishing. For high density prints and usage in even wet environment BACKLIT FILM SP is well proven. Thanks to its glossy surface colors will be brilliant even when backlit is switched off. The new trend to mount big pictures for real short terms on windows and the need to do it without trained people is a revival of CLING film. Due to fact that cling film sticks to the window by static it can be stick and take away easily and fast without any special knowledge or experience. CLING film is available as CLING CLEAR GLOSS or CLING WHITE GLOSS. Detailed information to the individual products can be found on the homepage of TEPEDE under NEWS.

42) FESPA launches e-learning-tool for screen printers

FESPA is launching its own e-learning program on screen printing, designed to offer a ready-made, interactive educational tool to help screen printers bridge the growing skills gap. The FESPA e-learning program is based on the acclaimed online course developed by the UK’s Digital & Screen Printing Association in conjunction with PDS Consulting. The original course is the product of 30 years practical experience in screen printing production and training, and addresses the key skills and knowledge vital to the efficient operation of the screen printing process. FESPA plans to build on this screen printing course with further modules on pad and digital printing, with the aim of developing a comprehensive European e-learning qualification covering all techniques. FESPA is now taking the initiative for translating and localizing the original English-language screen printing program for printers in Finland, Norway, Poland, Portugal and Spain. Further language versions may be introduced in the longer term, in response to demand from FESPA’s national associations. FESPA is also funding a number of initial licenses for each of the relevant national associations, enabling printers in these countries to take advantage of this training tool at no cost. FESPA Associations will be able to purchase further licenses from PDS Consulting via FESPA at a preferential rate. The FESPA e-learning program is accessible via a portal on the national associations’ web sites, avoiding the need for printers to install software on their own LANs. The tool comprises graphics, animations and video clips to enliven the thousands of facts, hints and tips which the course conveys to the user. Printers of all levels of expertise will benefit from the course, which can give absolute beginners a better understanding of the screen printing process, but can also help more experienced technicians acquire a more comprehensive skill set and improve their ability to solve practical problems. The content itself is complemented by links to other useful learning resources.
