12) Lüscher: World premiere of the JetScreen DX

At FESPA 2007 Lüscher AG will be staging the world premiere of the large-format JetScreen DX. Lüscher presents for the first time world-wide a new type of screen printing imaging and exposure technology, which, unlike the previous inkjet technology, that used a hot melt wax mask, now uses blue lasers to image all commercially available screen printing emulsions and capillary films. The new blue laser diode exposure head, entirely developed by Lüscher AG, produces screen printing stencils not only considerably faster, but also provides a distinct improvement in image quality simultaneously, with a much higher resolution capability than can be achieved with wax inkjet technology. Imaging and the exposure of all known emulsion materials, on all types and colors of mesh is completed in a one off operation. Furthermore, since additional consumables are no longer required by the JetScreen DX, the whole of the stencil production process turns out to be less expensive and more competitive. The exposure process operates with a choice of optical lens resolutions from 600, 900 or 1200 dpi. The substantial light intensity of 32 (or up to 128) blue-laser diodes completely hardens and cures the screen printing emulsion directly and at very high speed. Due to this exposing process, a subsequent exposure with UV light, as is required afterwards with inkjet hot melt wax imaging, is no longer necessary. Hence the conventional JetScreen will continue to be recommended for specialist applications in the large-format glass-printing sector or for the various kinds of printing stencil demands in textile screen printing.

The new Designjet printers are equipped with the HP70 print heads, each having 1056 nozzles per color. The new print heads in combination with ErgoSoft’s RIP software allow for the optimal use of its three different dot sizes. For example, light areas can be printed with much finer detail by using the small dots. The Z series of printers allow the user to choose between matte black and photo black inks. These inks are permanently in the printer and can be selected from the RIP software, allowing the user to avoid having to swap out inks. This will decrease the setup time between matte and glossy print jobs. Furthermore, ErgoSoft RIPs allow the matte black and photo black inks to be printed at the same time, resulting in a broad luscious black. Also, the 8th color is a gray, which results in even more textures in the light areas. The twelve color system of the Designjet Z3100 also includes RGB (red, green, and blue) which extends the printable gamut considerably. ErgoSoft’s profiling software, ColorGPS, is well suited to drive these multi-color systems.

44) Junkers & Müllers: Ruth Bussmann prints reproductions

Junkers & Müllers will be exhibiting reproductions of works of art by Ruth Bussmann at FESPA. The manufacturer of textile substrates for digital print was able to win the artist over with the quality of their product. The picture’s compositions as well as distinguished color-scheme create a unique mood. The originals are large-format paintings measuring 1 x 1.4 meters, oil on canvas. Junkers & Müllers wanted to present a practical application example of their textile substrates Troja and FineArt Canvas and for this purpose were looking for an artist who works on canvas. Painter Ruth Bussmann was so impressed by the quality of the products that she agreed to cooperate and made her paintings available for reproduction on the JM fabrics. “I was completely taken by surprise when I saw the fabric and quality of the prints. The canvas I use for my own work has a very similar fine structure. Both materials can be handled just like a real artist’s canvas and are equal in quality,” she explains.
