shown. So, it’s a good place to go!

2) Meet with Scitex at FESPA
FESPA will be the place to discover the
brand new Scitex VEEjet, the latest digital wide format flatbed printer. The
Scitex VEEjet, with its XY moving 4 colour inkjet heads, assures a perfect

3) Zünd introduces new large
format printer
The new Zünd UVjet 215-C utilize special
UV-inks and offers ability to print on flexible or rigid materials up to 40mm
thickness. Maximum print width is 215 cm. Max. resolution is 360dpi. These
features open a wide variety of application either for booth builders, sign
making, etc. The printer can be used for foam board printing as well as for all

6) LYSON is going to show new oil based inks
Working all time at technology edges LYSON often has shown innovation
and new definitions for what we call ink jet printing today. So this is going
to be continued. Next steps will therefore be shown at LYSON’s booth 131 in hall 10 at
Fespa. Lyson sells the innovative inks via OEM-contracts to a lot of
printer manufacturers as well as via a wide distribution network. The portfolio

7) Matan Digital Printers Expands SprinterB Family
Matan Digital Printers Ltd. announced the
SprinterB40″ printer, the newest offering in its acclaimed family of SprinterBä

8) New outdoor vinyl from REGULUS
Just in time before FESPA the coating
specialists of REGULUS are presenting an additional version of their outdoor
vinyl for large format printing. The main advantage of this matte and
waterproof substrate is its wider colour gamut compared to the standard -
especially when pigmented inks are in use. The print is durable for over one
year outdoors, which has been certified by an independent research institute.
The new vinyl is called SIVP and is available in all usual widths as of now.

9) Fluid-Lamination with the TOPCOATER from foltec

10) GRAFIPRINT micro-poros inkjet vinyl and media
Grafityp Selfadhesive Products added a micro-porous inkjet vinyl
(reference MP20) to their range of GRAFIPRINT media for inkjet printers.
Grafiprint MP20 is an ecological film, which is extremely suited for water based
pigmented inks, so prints on this material are suited for outdoor use. The main
advantage over a standard inkjet vinyl is, that the film does not come with an
inkjet coating. Therefore it is not necessary to laminate it with an additional
overlap. With the new "Low-Volatile Solvent printers" coming on the
market, GRAFITYP Selfadhesive Products has been working closely together with
some of the major printer manufacturers, to develop a new line of products,
especially for these low-volatile solvent printers. Having been tested and
approved by these printer manufacturers, the Grafiprint line of Low Solvent
Media (the Grafiprint L-series) will soon be launched.

11) Another milestone in Durst’s history – the Rho 160
Durst Phototechnik is setting a new standard on the screen printing
market with the roll-out of the Rho 160 digital wide-format printer at the most
important European screen printing exhibition, FESPA 2002. The Rho 160 will be
in operation at FESPA, hall 10, booth 810.
At top quality the Rho 160 can print 45 sq m (500 sq ft) per hour with one
operator carrying out all the tasks and functions – including media change. The
maximum print width is 158cm (62in) and printable medium thickness 40mm
(1.58in). As regards length, the only restriction is the length of the medium
itself.

12) The most comprehensive range of films for all needs
Neschen AG now has the most comprehensive range
of finishing and decorative films, protective varnishes, printable substrates
and coloured films. They have compiled the most important external applications
working in conjunction with their customers and have therefore developed a wide
range of products. The product combinations have been tested thoroughly in
practical tests and the user can therefore have the utmost confidence in using

Neschen is presenting a new varnishing
technology specifically for outdoor applications with the JetCoat-N series. The
possible applications include the protection of all digital prints (water-based
and solvent inks) on PVC tarpaulins, banner materials, billboards, vinyl, mesh,
PVC boards. The varnish in the JetCoat-N series provides long-lasting
protection against UV light, chemicals, water and mechanical rub for wide
format printing up to 5m in width.

13) Mutoh unveils three new Large Format Printer
Mutoh presented three new large format printers. At first there is a
ink-jet printer for the outside area - NX per Toucan. The high speed printer is
an extension of the range of products Albatros " Mutoh PJ-1304NX54 ".
The Toucan - it gives him in two versions - applies the newest technical
developments of the ink ray technology.The 64 " versions prints with 4
colors, 87 " models with 4 or 6 colors. Futher on Mutoh offers a new model
row under the name Rockhopper. She is meant particularly for user who produce
less than 10m˛ prints volumes per day. The Rockhopper is offered with a width
of 157 cm or 118 cm. Here for the first time Mutoh uses one with "
eco-solvent ink " called solvent ink. She makes special ventilation
systems superfluous. However, the ink also offers a wider colour gamut opposite
the pigmented inks of the other printers. Weight but riveted leases Mutoh
presented during the CeBIT 2002 a new serie of large size-ink-jet printers.
Under the name RJ-8000 serie Falcon II (photo) they are delivered since April,
2002. With it Mutoh offers near the Falcon Graphics RJ-4100 plus (4 colors) and
the RJ 6100 plus (6 colors) also a 8-colors-printer with whose technology and a
maximum resolution from 1440x1440 dpi an excellent photo-realistic print
quality is reached.

14) Improved Media for the XES ColorgrafX X2
Xerox Engineering Systems (XES) introduced a
variety of new media for the ColorgrafX X2 printer that greatly advance XES's
ability to service outdoor printing applications. By adding an assortment of
new vinyl's, papers and fabrics to the ColorgrafX X2's printing capabilities,
XES has greatly expanded the types of outdoor, as well as indoor, applications
print shops can fulfill using this printer, enabling them to offer additional
services to their customers and creating new revenue streams. One of the new
media includes an outdoor paper sold exclusively by XES in the U.S. for same
day paste and post billboard applications. The outdoor paper is a
cost-effective alternative to other outdoor media because it does not require
lamination and offers excellent image quality comparable to presentation
papers.

15) Arkwright: Photo Papers and White Polyester Film
Arkwright launched 4 new Photo Papers and a new White Polyester Film.
The new 200g/m˛ Premium Photo Paper (Gloss and Satin) is working with Dye &
Pigment inks for ALL waterbased inkjets (HP, Epson, Encad, etc.). The new
190g/m˛ Standard Photo Paper (Gloss and Satin) works with all Dye inks. The new
180g/m˛ Economic Photo Paper works with Dye & Pigment inks of all
inkjet printers. The new 4mil White Glossy Polyester Film works with Dye &
Pigment inks for ALL waterbased inkjets. A fantastic IJ Film for POP-UP
displays.
The new materials are available in all regular
rollwidths between 24"and 60". Besides further evolution on
whiteness, drying-time, high inkload-performance, etcetera, all materials are a
revolution in lamination and mounting (cold and hold). Extensive testing and
benchmarking has proven that these new Inkjetmedia are a break-through in the
market, and will save users a lot of time and money in the after-printing
process. As with all Arkwright materials, above-mentioned new products have a

16) See NUR Fresco HiQ 8C series at FESPA
NUR Europe S.A. will be highlighting a host of
recently announced wide format printing systems and its comprehensive
consumables offerings of inks and media at FESPA,

17) Meet Summa at FESPA

18) Sapphire- and Opal Solvent Inkjet Printer

conjunction with LYSON’s special developed inks, Pentachrome® LOD
(LYSON Outdoor), photorealistic impressions will be achieved, while opening the
colorspace in red and blue areas. Pentachrome® provides a 5 year
UV-stability for outdoor use and can be used for nearly all kind uncoated

19) New flatbed Arizona T220
At this year the former Gretag Professional
Imaging Division will be exhibiting not only their new identity now as part of
the Océ Wide Format Printing Systems business unit within the Display Graphics
Systems group, but also their new flatbed production printer – the new Océ Arizona T220. The Océ
ArizonaT220 is a solvent-based inkjet printer that uses Piezo printing
technology. It can print directly onto rigid and flexible substrates up to
157.7cm wide x 304.8cm long x 5.1cm thick ( 62” W x 120” L x 2” T). It is a
six-colour unit with four print heads per colour. In four-pass mode, print
speeds are up to 20.9 square meters per hour (225 sq feet); and in two-pass
mode, print speeds are up to 37.2 square meters per hour (400 sq feet).

20) Digital printing and sign

Flex-Europa is a

22) ENCAD, Inc.is present at

With the new 60"- Kodak
5260 printing solution, ENCAD is setting new performance standards in
terms of print speed and image quality. It is the first in a new line of
high-speed, large format inkjet printers from ENCAD that uses piezo inkjet
print head technology, six colours and DYNAMIC CONTONE TM printing -
the ability to deliver five distinct drop sizes over an extended range (8 pl to

26) One step solutions
3P InkJet Textiles AG focusses on fabrics for outdoor use at FESPA,
Madrid. After presenting MeshTex-Outdoor, a strong, net-like and
rip-proofed material last year, 3P now reached a further level of development
in Graphic Arts and Signage: FlagTex and LighTex – the ideal InkJet
textiles for soft signage. These soft falling polyester fabrics are incredibly
easy to handle – simply print with standard pigmented inks (e.g. HP with

3960 is a water-resistant, light and flexible PVC banner. It consists of
a tear-resistant polyester fabric which is embedded between two white vinyl

39) Digital Publishing Congress at photokina
This year photokina offers an additional value: the International
Congress for Digital Publishing. Participants can expect to obtain
comprehensive information on new technologies and applications in digital
publishing as well as a unique look at the everyday suitability of the products
and concepts on offer. The event will take place in Cologne on 25th and 26th
September 2002 for the first time as part of photokina. The Congress will
feature top-level expert representatives from international companies including

48) Ink Jet Printing will create incremental Markets Worth
According to I.T. Strategies, the impact of ink
jet technology on general commercial printing products will be minimal over the
next five years. Ink jet technology is still a young technology currently
incapable of matching the performance of traditional offset printing. However,
because ink jet technology can do things that traditional printing cannot (such
as very short runs, large sizes, customizing) it has found incremental print
markets similar to traditional printing. According to I.T. Strategies, over the
next five years ink jet technology is not expected to match the speed, quality
and cost of offset lithography and create a digital press that will challenge
offset presses.

One of MonacoPROFILER 4.0's new features is the
addition of the Fine Tune tool palette in the Profile Editor. This new tool
palette has two distinct functions; Selective Color Adjustment and Neutral Gray
Balance Adjustment. This month's tip will examine how to use the new Selective
Color Adjustment controls and practical applications for this tool. Next month,
they'll explore the Neutral Gray Balance Adjustment controls. Traditionally,
ICC profile editing software only allowed selective color adjustments to be
made using Lab or LCH values. Now, MonacoPROFILER 4.0 offers users the ability
to make very precise selective color adjustments in the output color space of
the profile. This includes RGB; CMYK; PANTONE® Hexachrome®; and 5, 6, 7, and
