1)      Reed Exhibitions: viscom 2005 in Düsseldorf, Germany

This year's viscom will be opening its doors from 29 September to 1 October in Düsseldorf, Germany. The organizers, Reed Exhibitions Deutschland, are once again expecting 280 exhibitors and around 9,000 trade visitors at the 8th International Trade Fair for Visual Advertising Techniques and Signmaking. Manufacturers, distributors and service companies who present machines, materials, soft-/hardware, accessories, technologies and know-how of the sectors signmaking (incl. neon and light outdoor advertising), digital print (esp. LFP), screen print (incl. imprinted sportswear) engraving and reprographics. 2)      Solaris launched Outdoor Inkjet Solutions

As the UK OEM partner of Yaselan Advertising Co in Shanghai, Solaris 1504 Ltd. will market a range of printers imported under license from the Far East. The new range is now available for the solvent outdoor market with this launch of Solaris. Imported machines are specifically re-modelled and undergo stringent quality and safety checks at Solaris. The models to be launched are diverse – the Solaris 1500FB is an entry-level solvent hybrid printer that prints onto a wide range of rigid and roll-fed materials at up to 400 dpi. Aimed at small sign shops the price gives affordable versatility onto substrates up to 1.5 m wide and 6.5 mm thick. The Solaris 3400GF is a Grand Format printer giving production quality printing at up to 50 sqm/hr onto media up to 3.4 m wide. It aims, to make Grand Format printing more affordable without compromising on quality. Finally, the Solaris 2200RR gives high quality output at production speeds of up to 19 sqm/hr. Printing onto uncoated media up to 2.2 m wide, the robust build quality allows rolls of media weighing up 100 kg to be used and an integral Bulk Ink System is included. Solaris 1504 Ltd. will carry stocks of spares and consumables to ensure fast response to customer needs. A full range of true solvent inks is also available for each product. These UK manufactured inks are produced to exacting standards and have been specifically chosen to optimize the performance of the printers.

3)      Matan gets creative with trade show promotion

At SGIA 05 in New Orleans, Matan Digital Printers will launch a new promotional campaign. A MINI Cooper, covered in a vehicle wrap printed by Matan, will be featured at the Matan booth No. 2129. Matan has announced that any client who purchases a Matan JetSet3.2i wide format digital inkjet printer during 2005 will get a free 24-month lease on a MINI Cooper. In addition, each day of the show Matan will raffle off an iPod mini. The Matan Digital Printers both will feature two of Matan's digital printers from its diversified product lines: the Matan JetSet3.2i wide format industrial inkjet press, including a new set of accessories and the Matan SpringPro professional digital label and decal printer. The Matan JetSeti wide and super wide format digital press, utilizing innovative Ricoh (Hitachi) inkjet technology, is available in both 2.5 and 3.2 meters. It prints 6 colors with an apparent 600 dpi resolution in a speed up to 785 sqft/h. The Matan JetSeti supports multi roll and backlit features and utilizes supreme Matan inks. 4)      Scitex Vision: CORjet Premium for the first time in USA

Scitex Vision will be showing the flatbed digital press for the production of display material, the Scitex Vision CORjet Premium, as well as the popular Scitex Vision TURBOjet and Scitex Vision XLjet Premium 3+, wide format printers at SGIA (28th September – 1st October) in New Orleans. The CORjet Premium incorporates a print controller and RIP, a fully automated loader, the press and drying unit, and automated un-loader. Capable of imaging as many as 29 160cm x 320cm (63" x 126") sheets up to 10mm thick per hour at resolutions up to 600dpi, the CORjet Premium opens new market opportunities for corrugated production, including the POP display market. 5)      VUTEk exhibits its UV-curing flatbed printer

VUTEk, a division of EFI, has designed its popular PressVu UV 200/600 UV-curing flatbed and roll-to-roll printer specifically for digital imaging shops looking to achieve high-end image quality. The PressVu UV 200/600 printer uses durable UV-curing inks that can be applied directly on both flexible and rigid substrates, so the time and expense of finishing steps such as mounting and lamination are eliminated. The switch between roll-to-roll and rigid materials has also been streamlined to be quick and easy. The PressVu UV 200/600 digital inkjet printer is loaded with features like stunning four- or six-color, 600 dpi capabilities that deliver photographic color reproduction and crisp text reproduction. Available in four-color, six-color, and four-color white+ models, the Press Vu UV 200/600 can print up to two meters (80 inches) wide at up to 33 sqm/h. It prints on rigid materials up to 4.45 cm thick. 6)      Mutoh at viscom with its latest printers

At the oncoming viscom 2005 show in Düsseldorf, Mutoh will feature its latest revolutions in the wide-format piezo printer industry, i.e. the Osprey, the Spitfire 65/90, the Spitfire 100, the Phoenix, and the Viper TX (see picture). The Osprey uses high-speed solvent based double density inks, making it possible to print directly onto standard uncoated PVC and banner materials. In production mode, its maximum speed amounts to 46.5 sqm/h. It incorporates two heating elements, one for media acclimatization before printing and the other one for post-conditioning of prints. Head height is adjustable in five steps, from 2.5 mm up to 4.5 mm. The Spitfire 65"/90" have respective printing widths of 1643 mm (64.68") and 2250 mm (88.58") and offer real time print speeds of up to 13 sqm/h on uncoated materials. Application possibilities encompass production of mid-term outdoor durable signs, such as corporate signs, stage and window graphics, POS displays, vehicle graphics and more. Spitfire 100 is a 102" (260 cm) wide printer and delivers real time production speeds up to 22 sqm/h on uncoated materials. The Phoenix is a machine that offers maximum media and print widths of 3.3 meter, with maximum roll weights of 200 kg. It incorporates a motorized 10 kg head carriage for multiple print heads, bulk ink supply and for additional curing equipment. The Phoenix is equipped with sophisticated media movement technology, i.e. a special single-operator media loading-system. The Viper TX is available in 65” (1653 mm) and 90” (2280 mm) size. The new Viper TX series are able to print directly onto non-stretch textile with open or closed structure, such as PES flag, cotton, silk and so on. Viper TX is targeted at short run volumes, varying from sample creation to small lot production. The printer incorporates an ink gutter, which is positioned under the printing path to collect all ink not absorbed by the textile.

7)      Lüscher at Print 05 and at viscom

At the forthcoming graphics exhibition Print 05, which takes place in Chicago from 9. to 15. September, Lüscher AG will exhibit most of their total range of equipment on their booth 6727 in North hall level 3. Visitors can see the JetPrint 3530 UV large format printer in a live demonstration. This recently released flatbed printer uses Spectra PIEZO print heads with up to 8192 nozzles in various configurations (4, 6,7 and 8 colors –plus white option). JetPrint prints UV curing SunJet inks on almost any rigid and flexible substrates with format up to 3500 x 3050 mm and 80 mm material thickness at speeds of up to 200 sqm/h. Also on the booth are Lüscher's XPose! 75, 130, and 160. This thermal Computer-to-Plate imaging system is a real bestseller with more than 700 XPose! sold all over the world. Furthermore, two types of imaging systems for flexo will be exhibited: The FlexPose!direct laser ablation system offers a "digital positive" solution, and the FlexPose! mask ablation System offers a "digital negative" solution. The FlexPose!direct can be used without adaptation to engrave flexo, letterpress & dry offset plates, flexo sleeves and rotary screens. FlexPose! is the only commercially available system that can be used to image flexo, offset and dry offset as well as letterpress plates.  As such, its primary application is for label printing. The Swiss company will do as well at viscom with its information booth K 29 in hall 6. Visitors to the viscom, who like to see the JetPrint 3530 UV large format printer in action, can visit Lüscher's first JetPrint-customer in Germany. 8)      GCC launched the StellarJet inkjet printer

GCC, headquartered in Taiwan, has launched the StellarJet 250 UV inkjet printer for the Asia market. The StellarJet employs UV-curable inks to print across a wide range of flexible and rigid substrates. Utilizing six ink colors in addition to white (basecoat, overcoat, spot color), the StellarJet 250UV features advanced technology such as an automatic ink-refilling system, and a media thickness auto calibration function. The StellarJet 250UV offers high-speed printing up to 96 sqm/h, allowable media thickness up to 5 cm, a user-friendly interface, and innovative technologies. Utilizing six ink colors in addition to white, the Stellar Jet is the ideal large-format printer for indoor/outdoor signage, screen-printing, point of purchase advertisements, vehicle graphics, display graphics, posters, exhibitions graphics, backlit displays, rigid boards, and more. 9)      Zünd with new PRINT+CUT concept

Whether a graphic is given a shape, makes use of an extraordinary material or uses white ink as a design element, the Zünd UVjet printer and flatbed cutter series offer a wide range of new opportunities. The complete print and cut concept will show how various printed material can be contour cut, trim cut or cut in any other required shape. 10)  ColorGATE: Print drivers and X-Rite DTP70

ColorGATE offers new print drivers for their products Productionserver4, Photogate4, and Proofgate4. In addition, all ColorGATE products will support the X-Rite DTP70 color measurement solution. The integration of the spectrophotometer X-Rite DTP70 in ColorGATE products serves for fast and accurate measurement of inkjet proofs. 11)  SCP: Scan-to-print software version Colorado 2005

Germany-based SCP Software Co. has announced the release of the latest scan-to-print software version Colorado 2005. The software's most important new feature is its revolutionary output subsystem, which performs all data processing related to such processes as scan analysis, quality filtering, color management, scaling and dithering in the background, separated from the scanning itself. The main system is ready for the next copy within seconds and a pro-scan is no longer needed. As a result, Colorado 2005 (a.k.a. CopySystems 2005) boosts color-copying productivity by up to 200 percent, while reducing operator time by up to 70 percent. 14)  MACtac offers two new films

MACtac labs have made a revolutionary discovery, making it possible to offer a self-adhesive film, which is easier to apply and repositioning than traditional films: MACtac 9800 Bubble Free. Film applicators can save up to 50 percent application time as air bubbles and wrinkles are easily pushed out thanks to the microstructure of the adhesive layer. 15)  ASLAN: It just works

16)  InteliCoat: New Magic products at viscom

InteliCoat Technologies has announced the addition of two new Magic products, designed for wide-format, water-based inkjet printers: DMPSV-G, a glossy, pressure-sensitive, universal vinyl product and POLY-PRO, a glossy polypropylene banner for indoors use. Magic DMPSV-G is a glossy, universal vinyl product with a pressure-sensitive adhesive coating and release liner. It is for use on wide-format, water-based printers with either dye or UV inks. Caliper is 290 micron (130 micron without release liner) and possible applications include board-mounted graphics and point-of-purchase displays. POLY-PRO glossy polypropylene is constructed with a specialized coating that offers a high degree of whiteness and color gamut, as well as an extremely smooth surface for high photographic resolution. This universal 190 micron product may be used on water-based wide-format printers with either dye or pigment inks. Indoor use is recommended. 17)  Dr. Graphix: DelSol Solvent Media line

Dr. Graphix Imaging brings long-term durability, and the freedom of choice to its DelSol Solvent Media line. High Strength Solvent PVC Banner is 100 percent water fast and available in both, gloss or matte finish. This product can be used for indoor, outdoor, over the road signage, POP displays, and tradeshow signage. Because of the nature of solvent and the durability of vinyl High Strength PVC Banner require no lamination and will hang flat without curling for optimum viewing. The 10oz or 13oz media is available in gloss or matt combinations from 38", 50", 54", 60, and 72" widths. DelSol Block Out Scrim Vinyl features a polyester scrim sandwiched between two PVC layers. The recently introduced filmoprint cast print system, for optimal fleet decoration, will be of particular interest at viscom. This system consists of solvoprint cast 50 GP and solvoprint cast clear 50. The extreme flexibility and suppleness of these products make them ideal for even the most complicated fleet decoration jobs. The ColdLam 1400-N was developed with small to medium-sized digital print jobs in mind. 19)  Gandinnovations: The largest freestanding billboard

MacGraphics Carranz International, based in Manila, Philippines, has produced what they consider the largest freestanding billboard in the world, standing at 160 feet by 160 feet. Alvin Carranz, founder and president of Mac Graphics Carranz, was recently informed; his masterpiece is in the process of being verified as the largest billboard in the world. Located in EDSA Guadalupe, Makati City, the billboard consists of 27 total pieces divided into three sections. A two-inch gap between each section allows the structure to remain durable against wind resistance or other harsh weather conditions. The entire billboard was printed on the Jeti 3300 from Gandinnovations, which Carranz said performed to his standards. "With the Jeti 3300 it was not as difficult as you think it might be. The Gandinnovation's Jeti performed well and all the pieces matched up easily and quickly." Carranz admits the toughest part was making a single steel structure to mount the printed material. The "world's largest billboard" reaches 275,000 potential clients daily, a rather conservative count considering the increasing volume of pedestrians and MRT commuters in the area.

22)  Durst opens branch in Mexico

Durst Phototechnik Digital Technology, Lienz, has opened its first sales and service branch in Mexico City on the 1.  August 2005. The branch, Durst Image Technology Latin America SA, has its head office in Mexico City and will cover all of Latin America, and employ five people. The first appearance of the new branch has been at the trade fair "Image World" in August in Mexico City, a special trades show for digital printing and photography. Latin America, especially Mexico and Brazil, is definitely a growing market for digital printing, the company give reasons for the commitment. Mexico, as gateway to the USA, produces approximately 1/3 of all the packaging needed in the USA. Packaging is a market in which Durst recently became involved with the newest piece of equipment, the Rhopac. Durst expects orders of approximately six to eight million US Dollar per year from Latin America. The inkjet printers made by Durst are used as production machines in the industry, printing around the clock. In order to maintain this level of productivity, a good and fast service back up is required, now ensured with the new branch in Mexico, which also has a good assortment of spare parts. 25)  Scitex Vision to sell its Business to HP

HP has announced that it has signed an agreement to acquire substantially all of the assets of Scitex Vision, a market leader in super-wide digital printing, for 230 million USD from Scitex Corporation Ltd. The acquisition expands HP's leadership in large-format printing into the industrial super-wide category and strengthens its position as a one-stop partner for providers of print services. Scitex Vision is a market leader in wide and super-wide format printers for signage and industrial applications, such as billboards, banners, street advertising, and packaging. Headquartered in Netanya/Israel, the company had revenue of 142 million USD for the one-year period ending June 30. Its principal subsidiaries are located in the United States, Belgium, China, Mexico, and South Africa. It also has presence in a further 75 countries. The acquisition complements HP's existing product portfolio of large-format printers and HP digital presses. It also provides HP with the benefits of Scitex Vision's proprietary technology for print heads, providing a significant competitive advantage. The transaction is subject to certain closing conditions and is expected to be completed within approximately 90 days. Following completion, the business acquired from Scitex Vision will be fully integrated into HP's Imaging and Printing Group.

27)  Digital Textile Berlin attracts strong interest

Web Consulting, organizers of the Digital Textile 2005 seminar and study tour to be held 8-10 September in Berlin, report that registrations for the event are exceeding expectations. 28)  Colourgen helps Proud Gallery for "living the moment" exhibition

To mark the season, from 29th July until 2nd September, Sony Ericsson Proud Galleries in Camden is showing a unique exhibition of the most famous iconic moments of British Rock Festival History. The show, entitled Living the Moment, consists of the Top 50 festival images as selected by a panel of top musicians and voted for by the public. 20 of the images have been developed in large format on a variety of media substrates by Colourgen partner, Ltd Limited, one of the UK's leading producers of limited edition large format inkjet prints. Most prints have been produced using either InteliCoat's Indoor Banner, outdoor Poster paper or Kodak's 180gsm Photo Glossy paper mounted onto acrylic for a better look and feel, all available from Colourgen. The InteliCoat IBOP media was used to produce the 4.5 x 3.2 m print of Pink Floyd. In addition, a giant lenticular image of Stone Roses' Ian Brown dancing at Spike Island has been produced using three separate photos. Visitors to the Living the Moment exhibition will be able to purchase images from a limited production run, either from the gallery or via the website. 29)  Imaging Expo successful debut in Shanghai

Following two successful Imaging Expo trade fairs in Beijing, this year's event took place for the first time in Shanghai, a metropolis with 14 million inhabitants. Around 62,000 visitors, representing 26 countries and regions, came to the photography and imaging fair. Compared to the previous event, Imaging Expo/Interphoto Shanghai 2005 registered an approximately 3.3-percent increase in visitor figures. Particularly encouraging was the high proportion of registered trade visitors: Some 18,000 people were buyers, primarily dealers and importers. They took advantage of the fair to gather information, place orders, and establish contacts. On a total stand area measuring 12,000 sqm, approximately 151 exhibitors from 15 countries presented a wide range of imaging-related products and services for the Chinese market. As part of a joint national participation organized by Koelnmesse International, German companies were once again represented in China at a shared stand. The twelve exhibitors at this stand together occupied a net area that was around 60 percent larger than at the previous event. All of the exhibitors at the German stand expressed satisfaction with the way the trade fair went and were optimistic about the opportunities for post-fair business. There was also a very positive response to the supporting program offered by Koelnmesse. The next Imaging Expo/Interphoto Shanghai will be held from July 12 to 15, 2006.

30)  FESPA India over two thirds sold

The organizers of FESPA WORLD EXPO – INDIA 2005, which will take place in New Delhi from December 1st to 4th 2005, have reported that over two thirds of the stand space they sold. Indicating a very positive response to this major new event aimed at the Indian, Middle East and Asian screen-printing and wide format digital imaging markets. Among confirmed companies demonstrating their equipment at FESPA India are VUTEk, Fujifilm Sericol India, Gandinnovations, Thieme, to name just a few.
