Scitex Vision helps Indy Imaging to meet current capacity
With the competition in the US wide
format circuit heating up, Indy Imaging of Indianapolis, Indiana, USA, has
taken up the challenge and is set to take pole position thanks to its new
Scitex Vision XLjet 5+ printer, installed in March, and its Scitex Vision
XLjet 5 Premium printer which is being installed in September. The
installation of the Scitex Vision XLjet 5+ was a calculated move to allow the
company not only to move into new markets, but also to continue to meet
current capacity, as its two older presses were starting to show the strain
of the unrelenting pace of production. Robbie Gordon, President of Indy
Imaging explains, “We needed a machine which would set us apart from the
competition, and give us the confidence to build upon our current capacity,
as well as to branch out into new markets. Winning new customers are all down
to producing high quality work and having a flexible machine that’s capable
of fast turnaround, things we felt that the Scitex Vision XLjet 5+ was easily
able to address.” He continues, “The machine’s versatility to run on so many
flexible substrates cost-effectively, from wallpaper to backlit film, canvas
and carpet made it the obvious choice for its first big job.” Robbie couldn’t
have chosen a more high profile event than the Indy 500 to demonstrate the
performance of his new printer. “The ability of the Scitex Vision XLjet 5+ to
print directly to mesh was a big factor in this job, we saved time and
materials through being able to switch directly from printing vinyl to mesh
in just a few minutes, without the cumbersome rail and paper feed system like
other presses. The machine’s ability to run at speeds of 1,022 sqft/hr (95
sqm/hr) allowed us to turn the job around in less than two days, which is no
mean feat when you consider that we printed one 20’ x 100’ banner for the
entrance to the grandstand and sixteen 18’ x 18’ banners to go around the
bleachers.”

Mutoh will show at viscom its latest revolutions in the
wide-format piezo printer industry, i.e. the Osprey, the Spitfire 65/90, the
Spitfire 100, the Phoenix, and the Viper TX. The Osprey uses high-speed
solvent based double density inks, making it possible to print directly onto
standard uncoated PVC and banner materials. In production mode, its maximum
speed amounts to 46.5 sqm/h. It incorporates two heating elements, one for
media acclimatization before printing and the other one for post-conditioning
of prints. Head height is adjustable in five steps, from 2.5 mm up to 4.5 mm.
The Spitfire 65"/90" have respective printing widths of 1643 mm and
2250 mm and offer real time print speeds of up to 13 sqm/h on uncoated
materials. Application possibilities encompass production of mid-term outdoor
durable signs, such as corporate signs, stage and window graphics, POS
displays, vehicle graphics and more. Spitfire 100 is a 102" wide printer
and delivers real time production speeds up to 22 sqm/h on uncoated
materials. The Phoenix is a machine that offers maximum media and print
widths of 3.3 meter, with maximum roll weights of 200 kg. It incorporates a
motorized 10 kg head carriage for multiple print heads, bulk ink supply and

Continental Grafix Ltd. has
significantly improved its leading self-adhesive product panoRama Optima and
has it relaunched with the appendix “Plus”. More and more European customers
have switched to panoRama Optima since its launch 18 months ago. It has
become one of the strong selling products. The intention was to offer an
economically priced option to the high quality window films among the
panoRama range. The customer could always choose between different perforation
patterns and backing liners. Now the so far known panoRama Optima has been
relaunched with the new name “panoRama Optima+”. The improved film features a
thickness of 120 microns and is clearly more robust than its forerunner. The
long-term adhesion has also been improved. Improved handling and shelf life
are just some benefits due to these alterations. The order possibilities with
different variances have not been changed for the customer. He can still
choose between standard polyester backing liner or the advantageous solution
with paper liner. Optima+ is available with 1550 perforation pattern – 1.5 mm
hole size with 50 % open area. This pattern is ideal for application on
vehicles for which it has been certified by German Kraftfahrt Bundesamt.
Seals can be supplied upon request. Continental Grafix supplies the 2050
pattern for big projects and building wraps. The holes with 2 mm diameter are
arranged in such a way that still 50 % of the media can be printed on. This
product is available upon request supplied with backing liner according to
your needs. Furthermore a second laminate has also been launched together
with Optima+ which is at high quality standard and economically in price.
panoProtect is an ultra clear PET laminate and available as from now.

CostView is the dynamic assistant to
help customers evaluate their printing costs and margins. Caldera Graphics
was the first RIP editor to propose the terrific CostProof feature, and now
it continues to develop revolutionary features, like CostView, the first tool
to help users sell large format prints. The company had presented it at
viscom in Paris in the middle of September. CostView distinguishes itself by
an ability to adapt to any plant of machines, by taking into account the
brand, model, media etc. It is a revolutionary tool to control sales margins.
It will change the way users compute their margins. This function will allow
users to define their own relations between the cost of ink, media, and
printers. All printers driven by Caldera Graphics will be automatically
recognized by the system and associated to compatible media. Users simply
have to enter the financial data (fixed or variable expenses) into CostView
and manage the amount of their services. It is a simple and visual yet
powerful tool, and a software package designed to suit the needs of
reprographers or sign specialists. CostView is based on an intuitive wizard,
allowing a step-by-step project. Users will have a visual feedback of their
project, the ink amount on the media, the price, and all details about the
job in progress. CostView uses the CostProof engine to accurately calculate
the cost of any jobs. It can then apply user-defined costs, margin
calculations, and additional processing costs. viscom:
