Dear readers,

here you will find something about interesting innovations and news about Large Format Printing.

1)      Reed Exhibition: viscom 2005 in Düsseldorf

The viscom, the International Trade Fair for Visual Advertising Techniques and Signmaking, opens its doors at the Düsseldorf Exhibition Centre on 29 September for three days. The organizers, Reed Exhibitions Deutschland GmbH, are most satisfied with the number of bookings to date: 281 exhibitors from 30 countries have already made firm stand reservations. At the last viscom 294 exhibitors from 28 countries presented their large-format digital printing, neon and sign, screenprinting, signmaking, engraving and display products. The viscom has prepared an interesting supporting program. One of this year's key topics will be the industry forum where exhibitors give others the benefit of their knowledge about the latest innovations and developments in visual communication. The German Marketing Association (Deutscher Marketingverband e.V.) will also be on hand at viscom. It will be looking to answer the question, "How can I protect my brand - and with it my future prospects - most effectively?" This topic will be rounded off by questions on financing and security. Intamt, the International Academy for Management und Technology, which functions as a foreign business support institution of the Russian Federation in Germany, will be providing information on two days about the rapidly growing outdoor advertising market in Russia. Following the highly successful debut in 2003, a further Adobe Workshop is scheduled for 2005. This will be held on all three days and will provide information on the optimum use of Adobe software. The topics will range from sessions on Adobe Bridge and Version Cue through to using Adobe Photoshop CS 2, Adobe InDesign CS 2, Adobe Acrobat 7.0 and Adobe Illustrator CS 2.

4)      Multi-Plot shows direct printing and sublimation

The digital textile printing offers many possibilities for prints from designs and motifs on different textiles. Sportswear, textiles for decoration, carpets, bed sheets, towels, large format banners or flags are only a small selection of media, which can be printed on. Multi-Plot will show the different printing processes: Direct printing and sublimation. The printer “d.gen Teleios” prints up to 260 cm directly on textiles. The integrated fixation system fixes the colors on the textiles, so they are water resistant. In addition, a new heatcutter “Fabric Cut 1600” will be presented. The heat transfer machine “HeatJet 70 evo” shows the transmission of paper to textile. The integrated fixation system fixes the colors on the textiles, so they are water resistant. The presentation of these machines will be a good opportunity for the viscom visitors to inform themselves about the possibilities around digital textile printing. Digital printed carpets, flags or banners will show the dimensions, the qualities, the brilliant colors and much more. viscom: booth H 59 in hall 6.

5)      Scitex Vision helps Indy Imaging to meet current capacity

With the competition in the US wide format circuit heating up, Indy Imaging of Indianapolis, Indiana, USA, has taken up the challenge and is set to take pole position thanks to its new Scitex Vision XLjet 5+ printer, installed in March, and its Scitex Vision XLjet 5 Premium printer which is being installed in September. The installation of the Scitex Vision XLjet 5+ was a calculated move to allow the company not only to move into new markets, but also to continue to meet current capacity, as its two older presses were starting to show the strain of the unrelenting pace of production. Robbie Gordon, President of Indy Imaging explains, “We needed a machine which would set us apart from the competition, and give us the confidence to build upon our current capacity, as well as to branch out into new markets. Winning new customers are all down to producing high quality work and having a flexible machine that’s capable of fast turnaround, things we felt that the Scitex Vision XLjet 5+ was easily able to address.” He continues, “The machine’s versatility to run on so many flexible substrates cost-effectively, from wallpaper to backlit film, canvas and carpet made it the obvious choice for its first big job.” Robbie couldn’t have chosen a more high profile event than the Indy 500 to demonstrate the performance of his new printer. “The ability of the Scitex Vision XLjet 5+ to print directly to mesh was a big factor in this job, we saved time and materials through being able to switch directly from printing vinyl to mesh in just a few minutes, without the cumbersome rail and paper feed system like other presses. The machine’s ability to run at speeds of 1,022 sqft/hr (95 sqm/hr) allowed us to turn the job around in less than two days, which is no mean feat when you consider that we printed one 20’ x 100’ banner for the entrance to the grandstand and sixteen 18’ x 18’ banners to go around the bleachers.”

18)  Continental Grafix launches Optima+

Continental Grafix Ltd. has significantly improved its leading self-adhesive product panoRama Optima and has it relaunched with the appendix “Plus”. More and more European customers have switched to panoRama Optima since its launch 18 months ago. It has become one of the strong selling products.
