Colorspan introduced new ENDURACHROME MULTI-DENSITY BLACK INKS

Print stunning black & white images with the detail and tonal graduation that match traditional silver halide prints using four densities of black ink. Available for both the DisplayMaker Series XII and DisplayMaker Esprit printers, the 500 ml EnduraChrome inks come in Dark Black, Medium Black, Medium/Light Black and Light Black. The four densities of black produce images with five grey levels, which equates to an apparent image resolution of 1800 dpi. These new EnduraChrome inks are designed for extremely long display life without noticeable fade in normal indoor lighting conditions. The printer can be configured with two or three sets of the four inks for 2x or 3x the print speed of a single set. Or, configure the printer with 8-colors (CYMK, Medium Cyan, Medium Magenta, Light Cyan, Light Magenta) and the 4-densities of black and have the flexibility to print either color or B&W prints with an apparent image resolution of 1800-dpi. ColorSpan will exhibit its digital fabric printer, the DisplayMaker FabriJet XII, at NUMTEX 2001, 25-26 October 2001, in Mulhouse, France. NUMTEX, organised by the French textile and Clothing Institute, is a forum to debate ideas in the emergent technologies affecting the textile industry. Kamal Ayoub, General Manager of MacDermid ColorSpan EMEA, will participate in the event’s efforts to educate the market by familiarizing manufacturers, who have no previous textile printing knowledge, with the implications and opportunities of digital printing, referring to established reference sites in Italy and France.

PIA Expects Industry Growth

The Printing Industries of America (PIA) is predicting continued increases in the U.S. graphic arts industry sales entering the new year, despite the sluggish economic growth throughout 2000 and most of 2001. Ron Davis, PIA_s chief economist acknowledges that it may be difficult to remain optimistic about the state of the industry's economy. "However, there are solid arguments that the 2002 North American economy will rebound from the current slump," he says. In Outlook for the Economy and Print Markets: What Lies Ahead for the Remainder of 2001?, Davis points to the fact that even though the U.S. economy lagged in 2000 and 2001, the overall economy did not go through a recession like in 1990-1991. For the rest of this year, the PIA predicts slight economic growth of fewer than 2 percent. Looking ahead to 2002, PIA predicts that the U.S. economy will grow 3 percent, with the economies of Canada and Mexico will surpass that with growth rates of 3.2 and 4.7 percent, respectively. These are favorable conditions for an upturn in the economy of the graphic arts industry.

Davis sees a continuation of the gradual restructuring of the printing industry in 2002. He writes, "Although the pace of mergers and acquisitions will continue to cool, they will still take place at a more modest rate focused on strategic positioning and operational efficiencies."
