At viscom 2005, wide format digital printer manufacturer Mutoh Europe NV has released its new generation of eco-solvent inks, called Eco-Solvent Ultra. The Eco-Solvent Ultra inks for the Muto Rockhopper printer family are Mutoh’s third generation of eco-solvent inks. Early 2002, Mutoh was the first to come to market with its eco-solvent ink concept. The first generation of eco-solvent inks was offered in combination with specifically coated media. Success for Mutoh’s Eco ink concept rocketed with the release in August 2003 of the Eco-Solvent Plus inks, the second-generation eco inks. With this development, Mutoh proved that there was an alternative for aggressive solvent inks to make printing onto uncoated materials possible. The new Eco-Solvent Ultra inks Mutoh specifically has developed for the Rockhopper piezo print heads, extending print head life and lowering the cost of ownership. At a cost of more than 20 percent below the Mutoh Eco-Solvent Plus ink, Eco-Solvent Ultra inks offer the same benefits as Eco-Solvent Plus inks, yet adding several enhancements, such as a higher color gamut, faster drying time, improved ink fixation, improved scratch resistance, higher print speed on uncoated self-adhesive PVC, and wide media compatibility. Prints made with the new Eco-Solvent Ultra inks are UV and water resistant for up to three years outdoors. More information: www.fillink.eu.com 15) Regulus: White inks usable with Regulus filmThe highlights at the viscom 2005 included new white solvent inks which were shown to their fullest advantage using a clear film made by Regulus. The demonstration provided an exciting glimpse of the wide range of new applications that these inks may open up for inkjet large format printing. The crystal-clear, solvent-based ink-receptive coating provides optimum resistance against scratches and water. This coating was featured not only on clear film but also on other novelties by Regulus. The new films for roll-up and pop-up displays that come with an inner block-out layer deserve particular mention. Both products will enable users to do completely without additional protection film when building trade-show booths or equipping point-of-sale displays. After printing, both types of film are ready for use in heavy-duty environments and will not show any signs of wear even if exposed to detergents. The films made by Regulus, available under the name 'Power Sol', are carried exclusively by specialist retailers. More information: www.regulus.de 16)

The interest focused mainly on the colored vinyl filmolux pro gloss, which will be expanded by 14 colors by the end of the year, the Roll Board, the 122 cm x 144 cm flexible panel, and filmoprint Cast Print System, a system for more than just vehicle application. The system consisting of the white, 50µm, printable cast film solvoprint cast 50 GP, and the likewise printable surface-protection film solvoprint cast clear 50, convincingly demonstrated its ability with complicated application on window mannequins. In addition, there is an expansion of the 5 year vinyl filmolux pro gloss. The filmolux pro gloss can be applied to all smooth and slightly curved surfaces. Outdoor application examples include the lettering and decoration of automobiles and transit vehicles as well as window advertising and signs. The indoor life span is practically limitless. filmolux pro gloss boasts excellent plotting, weeding and application properties thus saving time in processing. The white Roll Board panels are corona pre-treated. The corona activation is a very effective method of increasing the adhesion level of many materials. The process is limited to the material surface. It does not change the material properties and is not visible. It provides a markedly better binding of printing inks, varnishes, coatings, and adhesives. The Roll Boards are suitable for printing with UV-inks and screen printing and can also be laminated with practically all printed self-adhesive media.
