3)     TEPEDE and Teckwin announce cooperation

Teckwin, a well known supplier of wide and super wide format printers, and TEPEDE settled a close cooperation regarding the distribution of a broad Teckwin range to markets where TEPEDE has it's own subsidiaries: The Netherlands, Belgium, Germany, Czech, Croatia, Bulgaria, Slovakia and Hungaria and in addition also Austria. TEPEDE will integrate the complete range starting with the 2.5 m wide Tecklight solvent printer up to the 3.2 m wide UV printer to the existing portfolio, bundled with TEPEDE ColorBooster "powered by Caldera" and the wide range of TEPEDE media. All Teckwin printers are extremely well designed and stable. Teckwin machines will be controlled by a standard PC and not specifically designed motherboards. Print heads and parts like pumps and motors are supplied by well known international companies. All printers incorporate special features like: special Gutter for Mesh printing, a special device for backlit printing, or the opportunity to do double side printing. Due to the opportunity to place 2 rolls side by side and print on both in one pass, Teckwin solvent printers are very well suited for Blueback printing. There are 2 different models in 2 different sizes available with UV technology, one hybrid machine for rigid media and roll-to-roll printing for media thickness up to 15 mm and a printer for real industrial applications where media can be up to 50 mm thick. 4)     Mutoh unveils “Intelligent Interweaving” print technology

Belgium-based wide-format inkjet printer and sign cutting plotter manufacturer Mutoh Europe nv announces its new Intelligent Interweaving print technology – called “i²” – for the Spitfire 65/90 mild-solvent and Rockhopper 3 eco-solvent printer series. This new Mutoh proprietary printing technique brings about a substantial printer performance increase with regard to print speed and print quality, together with an unprecedented level of user comfort. Along with availability of its new intelligent interweaving technology, Mutoh Europe also announces a redubbing of its Rockhopper 3 and Spitfire 65/90 printer series into “Rockhopper 3 Extreme” and “Spitfire Extreme”. Rockhopper 3/Spitfire Extreme printers are the result of an engineering program involving both hardware and firmware modifications. The new Rockhopper 3 Extreme and Spitfire 65/90 Extreme printers will offer – next to the benefits already offered by the new i² printing technology – a major speed boost. Mutoh’s patent pending Intelligent Interweaving printing technology, called i² is a revolutionary new way of laying down ink onto a substrate. Whereas wide-format printers commonly lay down ink onto a substrate in a “straight line”, Mutoh’s intelligent interweaving technology will enable the printer to lay down the ink in a totally different way, e.g. in a “wave form pattern”. In doing so, depending on the application or media used, the new i² printing technique will vastly reduce or neutralize typical shortcomings inherently linked to inkjet printing, such as horizontal or vertical banding, missing or misfiring nozzles, step mismatch, mottle, etc.., since subsequent printing swaths are seamlessly “interlaced”. Next to the new i² printing technology, the new Rockhopper 3 and Spitfire 65/90 Extreme printers also incorporate a new 540 dpi high speed production printing mode. In 540 x 720 dpi print mode, Rockhopper 3 Extreme is able to reach speeds up to 8.25 qm/h on uncoated vinyl (versus 6 qm/h at 720 x 720 dpi on Rockhopper 3), whereas Spitfire 65/90 Extreme delivers speeds up to 16.5 qm/h on uncoated vinyl (versus 13 qm/h at 720 x 720 dpi on Spitfire 65/90).

6)     Benes: Extreme drying with the new Online Dryer-V

The newest Online Dryer is reinforced with extra tools for drying. As before, the heating surface realizes in-depth drying of the ink. Now the system carries a fan on top that has a steady and controlled airflow that strengthens the effect of the heating. Normally the vapour is prone to stay above the media limiting the drying speed. In the newest version, it is carried away by the fan. The ink solvents can evaporate more quickly, and consequently the output will dry a lot faster. Although the air velocity seems low, it is very effective. Another advantage is the possibility to swap up the Online Dryer for easy access to the take-up roll. Furthermore temperature and airflow are digitally programmable and like all other Online Dryers the OnD-V is conforming to international safety standards (US, CSA, CE). Although currently the Online Dryer V is only available for the Roland XC-540, in the near future this new Online Dryer will also be available for HP Designjet 10000.

7)     SEAL Graphics: First European installation of AS72UV

A few weeks before the debut UK installation, Grapo – a Czech advertising media company – has become the first in Europe to commission a AquaSEAL 72UV liquid laminator. Based in Olomouc, near Brünn, Grapo is an established Top Three Czech producer of billboard, banner and vehicle graphics with prestigious companies such as Adidas, Ikea and Benetton among its clients. In addition to producing finished output, Grapo has also designed and developed a range of UV printers, which they sell under the Octopus brand. The AS72UV is seen as an ideal companion to current generation flatbed printers. Its flatbed construction will coat prints and rigid substrates up to 1.76m wide and 12.7mm in thickness at speeds of up to 27 meters per minute. Roll-to-roll finishing is an optional extra that Grapo has taken up. The AS72UV uses a liquid formulation that is instantly cured when it passes under the inbuilt ultra violet lamp. As such, it offers immediate protection to a wide variety of materials including output from inkjet, electrostatic, photographic and dye-sublimation printers. The liquid has been specifically formulated to meet the extreme demands on outdoor displays and vehicle graphics and is impervious to water, petrol, grease, alcohol, salt spray and detergents. It exhibits low shrinkage, low edge curl and is non-yellowing. It is also UV, scratch, scrub and abrasion-resistant and comes in gloss, lustre and matt finishes.

11) Continental Grafix goes Heimtextil with perforated textile

Continental Grafix Ltd., a European manufacturer of high quality perforated printing media, is going to capture a new market and is exhibiting from Jan 10-13 at Europe’s biggest textile fair “Heimtextil”. This is an important step as the Swiss perforating specialists have had their core competence in the field of digital printing foils. After the launch of the product panoRama Design many prospects, but also experts in the field of textile have motivated Continental Grafix to present such an innovation at Heimtextil. This exhibition is the linchpin of all products for home textiles. Among these home textiles panoRama Design can be used in the area of sun protection systems. The amount of exhibitors which show digitally printable textile has been increasing from year to year. So this is also the right direction for Continental Grafix to go for. Perforating printing media is complex and difficult but also there are very little companies throughout the world that possess the necessary know how. So Continental Grafix has set to work on perforating a textile for the first time. panoRama Design is a white polyester textile made of PET fibers with black reverse side and approximately 20% open area. The perforation is by a fraction of a millimeter accurate and allows a transparent see-through effect. panoRama Design is meant to be used as banner, roller blind or sun protection but can also be used for booth construction or flexible room divider. It is needless to say that panoRama Design has been B1 certified. At Heimtextil the product will be shown to the audience in an application as sun protection roller blind or vertical blind. Whoever would like to see this “live on stage” is highly invited to visit Continental Grafix at Heimtextil. Heimtextil: hall 4.2, booth K 31

13) Jessup GloBrite® advantage in direct UV cure ink printing

Jessup Manufacturing Company, one of the leading photoluminescent manufacturers in the USA and Continental Europe, reports that its GloBrite® photoluminescent film is recognized in the large format, on-demand print arena as an ultimate medium for creating emergency and safety signage using UV cure ink digital printing solutions. Jessup's GloBrite® film is constructed from high quality polyester with the addition of a metalized base for guaranteed opacity and dimensional stability. Jessup GloBrite® remains free of shrinkage and edge ‘curl’ and is an environmentally friendly material. The market for photoluminescent safety signage is experiencing phenomenal growth in the UK and Continental Europe. Due to safety and security concerns, photoluminescent safety and guidance signs are now a requirement in a variety of environments; from high profile cruise ships to prestigious buildings. Jessup directly addresses UV cure ink print requirements by offering a film with the highest performing photoluminescent pigment technology. Previously, printers using pigment, solvent and eco-solvent based solutions needed to use a top coating on the substrate to stabilize the surface and maintain consistent printing. When paired up with a UV ink based system, Jessup GloBrite® photoluminescent film is immediately printable, directly onto its high quality, extremely durable polyester topcoat – using either a sheet-fed or roll-fed system.
